April 2014

Letter from the AOH President John P. Kelly Division 1

Greetings Fellow Hibernians,

I can hardly believe it is April. Where does the time go? Well, I heard we had a good St Patrick’s day. Thanks to everyone who had a hand in it. It’s very hard to plan for something for a whole year and not be able to attend. Lucky for us we have members who will pick up the ball and run with it. With that said. Please sell your trip for two to Ireland tickets and don’t hold them till the festival. We need the money now to put on the best festival to date. With the new location at Promenade Park, we are hoping to recapture the “party in the park” theme when the park was new and we will need everyone to help do it! We have a great entertainment lineup with Dulahan,  Paulie & Peggie Baker from Brigid’s Cross and home town hero’s Extra Stout & The Thirsty Houligans. Also, the Ardan school of Irish Dance and Molly’s Irish Dancer’s. This looks like the best line up to date! Pray for clear sky’s Aug 8TH & 9TH.

God Bless

Yours in Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity,

Matt Cassidy

Festival planning for 2014 continues and we need everyone’s help to make this year a great success. First, we have created a fundraising goal of $5000 by February 15. We can achieve by selling program ads, finding sponsors, selling raffle tickets. Just think, if each member just sells 5 tickets (remember the sixth is free), we would be very close to that goal. SO PLEASE GET THOSE STUBS TO US TO HELP US REACH OUR GOAL. Also corporate sponsors are needed to help defray our costs. We have one sponsor to date for $2500 from Trilby Foot Center. Yes I know it’s by my office but I believe that our festival is ready to become a great success that all of Toledo will look forward to attend yearly. So if you have any contact with a business that may be interested in advertising or sponsoring, please contact me at 419-346-6024. Our next meeting will beWednesday, February 5th @7pm at Zacharyas on Alexis Rd. Please plan on attending and help us make this our BEST festival yet!

Letter from the AOH President John P. Kelly Division 1
Greetings!
Well summer is over and the kids are back in school so it must be time to get down to business. The next AOH meeting will be Oct. 17th at Zachariah’s (Rambo & Alexis) Happy Hour 6 to 7. Meeting starts at 7PM. I hope you can make it.
A big thank you to Sherri McNeill for great turn out and a very fun river cruise. If you ever wondered how we can do this year after year so reasonable, thank my brother Mike for the great food. He as a way with local business I admire. The team work and cooperation between the AOH and the LAOH makes the Lucas County Hibernians something to be very proud of.
I would also like to thank Tom & Lynn McCabe for hosting this year’s Hibernian Picnic. The three B’s were represented well, Burgers, Brat’s & Beer. We all had a good time.
We are planning a combined AOH/LAOH division meeting for Thursday Nov 21st. Dinner will be at 6:00 in the restaurant, meeting at 7:30 in the meeting room at Zacharya’s. We will be discussing last year’s summer festival P&L and looking to what our future might bring. I hope to see everyone with NEW ideas at this meeting!
CONGRATULATIONS! To this year’s TRIP FOR TWO TO IRELAND raffle Don Warner of Maumee. He bought his ticket from Ann D. on media day at the Blarney. He told me this trip was on his bucket list. The Warner’s will be going to Ireland for the first time in Sept. of 2014. You are a part of an organization that makes people’s dreams come true! God bless you all.
If you would like to see this raffle continue, I need a chairman or woman.
It is time to print tickets and start selling NOW! Christmas will be here before you know it and it’s a great present for that hard to buy for person on your list. With that said, our Christmas party will be Friday December 13th at the K of C on Secor Rd. in the small hall on the north side of the building. It will be pot luck. For more details you will have to attend a meeting or phone the AOH Hotline @ 419-405-1AOH.

Letter from the LAOH President Mother McCauley Division
As we wind down the year, I find myself looking back at all the fun events that all of us fellow Hibernian’s have had. Ball games, golf outings, picnics, our river cruise, our St. Patrick’s day celebration, our festival…only to mention a few. There have been many good times!
We will finish out this year at our Annual Christmas Party, with the installation of our new LAOH Division Officers. I have grown and enjoyed filling the position of your President for the last two years. I thank you all for your kindness and support. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Christmas Dinner and sharing new memories with all. I wish you all the love and happiness the up in coming season can bring and may it follow you throughout the coming year.

Letter from the AOH President John P. Kelly Division 1

 Greetings!

Thanks to everyone who helped with this year’s festival. We couldn’t do it without you. Congratulations to Greg Cassidy Hibernian of the year and thanks to the LAOH for letting the AOH go out of turn to give it to him. FYI, from now on this award will be given out on St. Patrick’s Day. This year that’s a Monday and we will be at St. Clements Community Center. Special thanks to Ann Dollman who sold more trip for two to Ireland tickets than any other Hibernian! Please say thanks to her when you see her. The trip for two to Ireland raffle is in need of a full time full fledged Hibernian to bring excitement and enthusiasm back. This trip has the potential to raise $7000.00 profit. We as members just have to ask our friends and co workers to buy a ticket or 6 for $50.00. Tickets need to be printed soon! It is a fun job and can be rewarding! Give the Hibernian Hot line a call and say I can! 419-405-1AOH. The AOH will NOT hold a August or September Division meeting. We will count the Aug. 23 River Cruse on the Sandpiper as one and the Sept. 8Th Picnic at Tom McCabe’s as one. Our next Division meeting will be Thursday Oct.17 at Zack’s. Let Mike (the guy who owns Zack’s) know that you appreciate his support in our festival program and try to support all our sponsors.

Thanks again and have a great summer

When is that boat ride? How much does it cost? Who do I contact if I want to go? How do I become a member? I DON’T KNOW……. & they wouldn’t remember if you told them, so give them one of these! Let me know if you want some to keep in your pocket.

Letter from the AOH President John P. Kelly Division 1

Happy New Year!

Well ready or not, here we come 2013! All things considered, 2012 was a very good year for the Hibernians in Lucas County, and the New Year promises to be better than the last. I have a great slate of new officers who all go the extra mile to make things happen. The trip for two to Ireland is off and running. I could use a co chair with my new responsibilities but we will make it happen. Something new for us this year the LAOH is putting together a mass celebrating the feast day of St. Brigid February 2nd. We need this kind of event to remind us of who we are and where we came from. Thanks! The AOH has an installation dinner planned at Eddie Lee’s in February for our new members, and that is always a good time. March signals the first signs of spring and of course the wearing of the green at the K of C March 17th followed by a trip to ND for the Spring Game. Can it get any better than this? Well yes it could. All we are missing is YOU! With the start of the new year. I am looking to fill some slots that have been empty for a long time. Our division could use a historian to give us a short report each month to remind us of what our ancestor’s went through to get here. A FFAI chairman (Freedom for All Ireland) to keep us abreast of state and National efforts to promote this cause, and a chairman for Catholic Action. If anyone is interested in filling one of these slots please let me know. Having all the slots full will make for a more interesting meeting and a well rounded more informed division.

Thanks and I hope 2013 is everything you wanted and more

In case you missed out, the IRISH HERITAGE NIGHT AT THE MUD HENS was on August 12th this year and was a GREAT success! The Mud Hens promoted our festival on the Jumbotron during the game about a half dozen times & a wonderful time was had by all.

Our 22ND ANNUALTOLEDO HIBERNIAN IRISH FESTIVAL was that same week(end) on August 17th & 18th downtown Toledo on Huron St. between the Blarney & Pizza Papalis. It was very well attended. The pole vaulters were great entertainment and our musical talent was the best yet!

The RACEWAY PARK event may have been your last opportunity to see live harness racing in Toledo. Our attendance was down this year. The lack of information reaching our members (for example this newsletter) may have played a role in that.

–UPDATE-

Great news! Raceway Park management has informed us that we will get 1 more year of harness racing at Raceway Park! If you missed it this year, STAY TUNED! We will give you next year’s date as soon as it becomes available.

Finally, though the 9TH ANNUAL AOH RIVER CRUISE was originally postponed, we climbed aboard  the Sandpiper on September 27th and were treated to fall colors and deer along the banks of the mighty Maumee. Thanks to all who attended!

As always….. All of our events are open to the public. Please come and join us! See how much fun it is to be HIBERNIAN! You can see more pictures & details on www.AOHTOLEDO.com

We will be resurrecting a short lived tradition, but a great Idea.

The HIBERNIAN HAPPY HOUR will be the 1st Thursday of each month. This is just an opportunity for or group to patronize local establishments that assist our organization in its mission to promote Irish culture just by operating as an Irish pub / bar or grill. No meeting, no tickets, no work. Come for dinner, drinks and / or fellowship with your favorite lads and lasses! (Nov.1st Mulvaney’s Irish Bunker 4945 Dorr St)

A lot is happening with the Lucas County Hibernians. We will be working with some or all of the establishments on the http://aohtoledo.com/irish-toledo/ page. Recruiting members, driving new people to our events & promoting Irish culture together. Letter from the LAOH President Mother McCauley Division

October already? Where has this year gone? It has been an exciting year thus far, with us wrapping up a successful Toledo Irish Festival. All who were involved, no matter to what extent, should be very proud. It takes a great deal of combined effort to make such an event run smoothly. And there are still fun events yet to finish out 2012

We are now heading into the holiday season which is always a good time to reflect on our spirituality and with this we will be holding our First LAOH Retreat. And we will finish out this year with our Annual Christmas Party. I look forward to seeing everyone and sharing memories with all – I wish you all the love and happiness this season can bring and may it follow you throughout the coming year.

Have a blessed day,

Maureen Gale

It’s time to go to Hibernian School 101

The Toledo Area Hibernians have a few new tools. It’s not new to all of us but the AOH has a new website www.aohtoledo.com – We also have a new email address aohtoledo@gmail.com BUT THE FUN DOESN’T STOP THERE! We have secured a Google voice phone number that will ring directly to a chosen representative of the AOH who has information on all of our upcoming events. That phone number is 419-405-1AOH (1264). This number can be changed to ring to a different chosen representative of the AOH at any time (for example, upon elections). We also have a new QR code QR codes kind of look like UPC symbols but they can actually be scanned by smart phones. When scanned, this QR code will take you directly to our contest page on our website. This is part of a membership drive campaign. We will be collecting names, addresses, emails  and phone numbers so that we may market directly to individuals interested in our events and our organization. The business cards are new too but not exactly new technology Please ask for some or look for them at the next event / meeting. We have 2500 to get rid of in the next year.

Thanks for reading and now you are up to speed with all that is new with the Ancient Order of Hibernians

……and now you also know what we do with the sixth page of the newsletter instead of leaving it blank.

If you have not received an email from aohtoledo@gmail.com, WE DON’T HAVE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS! Please email us today at aohtoledo@gmail.com and tell us! Phone #’s too!
